Scenes, Routines, and Workflows

Scenes — One Tap Controls Many Devices

Combine any switches across any rooms into a named scene. Movie Mode: dim 4 living room lights to 20%, close curtains, turn on TV socket, switch off ceiling fan. Good Morning: open bedroom curtains, switch on geyser, turn on kitchen lights, set AC to 24°C. Add unlimited devices to a scene. Each device executes with its own parameters — specific brightness, fan speed, curtain position.

Scenes execute across all included devices in under 2 seconds, not sequentially. The app sends commands in parallel to every device. A 10-device scene runs as fast as a 1-device scene. Compare this with brands where scenes execute device-by-device and 10-device scenes take 12–15 seconds — by which time you’ve walked to the wall switch.

Assign any scene to a physical touch switch. Press the labeled “Movie” button on your Modular Touch panel — the scene runs. No phone required. Guests and elderly family members can run complex automations without the app. Works on Modular Touch and Full Glass Magnetic Touch switches where buttons can be dedicated to scenes.

Edit, rename, duplicate, or delete scenes from one consolidated library. Search scenes by name. Organise by room or category. Activate/deactivate without deleting — useful when a scene is temporarily not needed (party mode during regular weekdays). The library view shows last-run timestamps so you can identify scenes nobody uses.

Chain scenes sequentially. “Arrive Home” scene turns on entry lights and climate, then triggers “Evening” scene 30 minutes later to adjust to evening brightness. Create multi-phase automations without complex workflow setup. Particularly useful for wake-up sequences where stage 1 (dim light) transitions to stage 2 (full brightness) to stage 3 (open curtains) over 20 minutes.

Scenes accept any combination of Beakn devices: switches, dimmers, fan controllers, curtain controllers, IR blasters (for AC/TV), RGB lights, CCT lights. One scene can simultaneously dim lights, adjust fan speed, set AC temperature via IR, and open curtains — each with independent parameters.

Routines — Automation That Runs on a Schedule

A routine is a scheduled scene. Daily morning routine: 6:45 AM turn on geyser, 7:00 AM open bedroom curtains, 7:15 AM turn on kitchen lights. Set the start time, select the scene, choose the days. Routines run automatically without phone interaction. Works even when phones are offline because schedules execute on the switch’s local clock.

Choose days precisely: all days, weekdays only, weekends only, or custom day combinations (Mon + Wed + Fri). Different routines for different days — work-from-home routine on Wednesdays, school morning routine Mon–Fri. Removes the need to manually enable/disable routines based on day-of-week.

Settings → Schedules/Routines shows every active routine consolidated in a single list. Identify conflicts — two routines controlling the same switch at overlapping times. Spot forgotten routines still running from months ago. Without this consolidated view, managing 10+ routines becomes unmanageable.

Workflows — Automation Triggered by Conditions

Workflows are IF-THEN automations. IF gas sensor detects leak, THEN turn off kitchen plug and send WhatsApp alert. IF bedroom humidity exceeds 70%, THEN turn on dehumidifier. IF motion detected in hallway between 11 PM and 5 AM, THEN turn on night light for 5 minutes. Unlike routines which trigger on time, workflows trigger on real-world sensor or device state.

Restrict workflow triggers to specific hours. Motion-based hallway light activates only between sunset and sunrise — not during the day when hallway motion is constant. Gas sensor alerts run 24/7. Humidity-based exhaust fan activates only when someone is likely showering. Time windows prevent false triggers and battery drain.

Workflows can trigger from: temperature thresholds, humidity levels, electrical current draw, voltage spikes/dips, motion detection, door contact state, gas sensor activation, scheduled times, sunrise/sunset events, and device state changes. One workflow can combine multiple trigger types — motion AND after sunset AND door closed.

Any automation can send a WhatsApp or in-app notification as part of its actions. Geyser turns off after 20 minutes of runtime — send confirmation to WhatsApp. Intrusion detected — alert to primary user, secondary user, and WhatsApp. Useful for audit trails and ensuring critical automations actually executed.

One trigger can execute unlimited actions. Gas leak trigger: turn off 3 kitchen plugs + send WhatsApp alert + trigger Alert scene (flash hall lights red) + send app notification + log event. Multi-action automations eliminate the need for complex scene chaining in safety-critical scenarios.

Workflows can trigger entire scenes, not just individual devices. Door sensor detects “front door opened after sunset” → triggers “Welcome Home” scene (entry light, hall light, AC to 24°C, music on). One sensor event can activate a full multi-device scene without duplicating configuration.

Sunrise & Sunset — Automation That Adjusts Daily

Schedule automations to trigger at sunrise or sunset based on your location. Unlike fixed-time schedules, these adjust automatically as seasons change — in Hyderabad, sunset varies from 5:45 PM in winter to 6:50 PM in summer. Porch lights come on at actual sunset, not a hardcoded 6 PM. Blinds close at sunset year-round.

Fine-tune sunrise/sunset triggers with positive or negative offsets. Turn on porch lights 15 minutes before sunset (so the house lights up as sky dims, not after it’s already dark). Close bedroom curtains 30 minutes after sunset. Trigger wake-up routine 45 minutes before sunrise. Offsets range from -60 to +60 minutes.
