Alexa & Google Assistant

32 Voice & Automation Features

An alexa switch is a smart switch that responds to voice commands through Amazon Echo devices — Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Pop, Fire TV — and the Alexa app. Every Beakn alexa switch also works with Google Home simultaneously: Nest Mini, Nest Hub, Nest Audio, Android phones, Wear OS watches. This page covers 32 voice and automation features across both ecosystems — voice commands, room groups, routines, sunrise/sunset triggers, presence detection, smart display dashboards, and cross-platform simultaneous control. All included free with every Beakn device.

Operate Every Beakn Switch Through Alexa and Google Assistant

Amazon Alexa Features — Echo, Fire TV & Routines

“Alexa, turn on the bedroom light.” Instant response. Every Beakn switch linked through the Alexa skill becomes a voice-controllable alexa switch from any Echo device. Alexa supports granular commands: turn on, turn off, set fan to speed 3, dim to 40%, turn off all lights. Works from Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Pop, Echo Studio, Fire TV, and the Alexa app on your phone.

Create a room group called “Living Room”. Add your Beakn hall lights, fan, and LED strip to it. Now “Alexa, turn off the living room” shuts down everything in that group. Assign each Echo device to a room group, and contextual commands work — “Alexa, turn off the lights” spoken to the bedroom Echo turns off only the bedroom alexa switch devices because the Echo knows its room.

A single Alexa routine can be triggered by a custom voice phrase, scheduled time, alarm dismissal, motion sensor, arrive/leave location, or Echo button press. “Alexa, good morning” routine: kitchen light ON, geyser ON, weather announcement, morning playlist, bedroom fan to speed 2. Routines also support wait/delay actions — turn ON geyser, wait 20 minutes, turn OFF geyser — all within one routine.

Set a routine to run at 6:30 AM every weekday without any voice command. The geyser turns ON, the kitchen alexa switch activates, and Alexa announces the weather — all automatically. Scheduled routines can target specific days of the week. Weekday 6:30 AM routine. Weekend 8:00 AM routine. Daily 6:00 PM outdoor lights routine. Each runs independently.

Set an Alexa alarm for 6:30 AM. When you say “Alexa, stop” to dismiss it, a routine fires: bedroom light ON at 40%, geyser ON, kitchen light ON, curtains open. Maps your actual wake-up moment to your home automation — not a fixed time. If you snooze to 6:45 AM, the home responds at 6:45 AM, not 6:30. Setup: Alexa app → Routines → When this happens → Alarm → Is Dismissed.

Alexa supports geolocation triggers through the Alexa phone app. When your phone enters or exits a defined zone, a routine fires. “When I leave home → Turn OFF all Beakn switches, set AC to energy-saving temperature.” “When I arrive home after 6 PM → Turn ON foyer lights, living room lights, AC.” Requires location permissions in the Alexa app. Radius adjustable for apartment complexes.

Echo Dot and Echo Show

Echo Show (5, 8, 10, 15-inch models) displays smart home devices as visual tiles. Every Beakn alexa switch appears on screen. Tap to toggle. Swipe to see different rooms. Echo Show 15 mounted on a kitchen wall becomes a family command centre — clock, calendar, weather, and switch controls. Echo Show 5 on the bedside table: alarm clock + bedroom switch controller in one device.

Alexa Guard uses the Echo’s microphone to listen for specific sounds when you’re away — glass breaking, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors. When detected, it sends a phone alert. Combine with Beakn’s Home Lock feature: Guard monitors audio, Home Lock monitors manual switch operations. Together they create a layered awareness system — audio + switch activity — without installing cameras.

Alexa notices you turn off the kitchen light at 11 PM every night. One night you forget. Alexa notifies: “It looks like you forgot to turn off the kitchen light. Would you like me to turn it off?” Hunches are Alexa’s proactive intelligence — pattern learning over time. Enable Auto Hunches to skip the confirmation step. A safety net on top of Beakn’s own scheduling.

“Alexa, announce that dinner is ready.” Every Echo device in the house plays: “Dinner is ready.” No shouting between floors, no calling phones. Combine with Beakn actions in a routine: “Alexa, dinner time” → Announce “Dinner is ready” + Turn ON dining room alexa switch + Turn OFF TV + Turn OFF kids’ room switches. Drop-In goes further — live two-way intercom between rooms.

With a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube, Alexa is built in. Press the voice button on your Fire TV remote: “Turn off the bedroom lights.” Beakn responds from your TV remote, on your couch, without touching your phone. Fire TV also displays smart home controls in its interface — navigate to the smart home section to see Beakn alexa switch tiles. Existing TV hardware becomes an additional smart home controller.

Midnight. Your spouse is sleeping. You need to turn off the bathroom light. Whisper to Alexa, and Alexa whispers back. The command executes identically — your alexa switch toggles — but the interaction is quiet enough to not wake anyone. Enable Whisper Mode in Alexa settings. Alexa automatically detects whispering and matches your volume. Perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, late-night adjustments.

Google Assistant — Nest, Gemini & Google Home

“Hey Google, turn on the hall light.” Every Beakn switch linked to Google Home becomes voice-controllable. Turn ON, OFF, adjust brightness, change fan speed — all through natural voice commands from any Google Nest speaker, Nest display, or phone’s Google Assistant. Works on Nest Mini, Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, Nest Audio, Android phones, Android tablets, Wear OS watches, Chromebooks.

“Hey Google, turn off the bedroom.” Every Beakn switch assigned to the Bedroom in the Google Home app turns off. No listing devices, no repeating commands. Google Home organises devices by room, and Beakn switches are assigned to rooms during setup. “Turn off the kitchen.” “Turn on the living room lights.” Each command targets every switch in that room simultaneously — the fastest shutdown on the way out the door.

“Hey Google, good morning” can turn ON the kitchen light, set the bedroom fan to speed 2, turn ON the geyser, read the weather, and play your morning playlist — all from one phrase. Google Routines support multiple trigger types: voice command, scheduled time, alarm dismissal, sunrise/sunset, and home/away presence. Build routines in the Google Home app under Automations. Add Beakn switches as actions, set the trigger, save.

Google Home routines can be triggered by time, not just voice. Set a routine at 6:30 AM every weekday: geyser ON, kitchen light ON, bedroom curtains open. Operates independently of Beakn’s own scheduler. The advantage of Google’s scheduled routines: they combine Beakn switch actions with non-Beakn actions (weather announcements, news briefings, music playback) in a single timed sequence. Beakn’s own scheduler is switch-only.

Google Home routines support sunrise and sunset as triggers, adjusting daily based on your home’s location. “At sunset: turn ON outdoor Beakn lights + announce ‘Sunset, outdoor lights are on’ via Nest speaker + play relaxing music.” Beakn’s own sunset automation handles the switches. Google handles the broader multimedia experience. Use both simultaneously without conflict.

Google Home tracks which family members are home based on phone location. “When everyone leaves home → Turn OFF all Beakn switches.” This fires only when the last person’s phone exits the home zone. If your spouse is still home, nothing happens. Smarter than single-user geofencing because it considers the entire family. “When the first person arrives home → Turn ON foyer and passage lights.” Requires all family members to have Google Home with location permissions.

Nest, Gemini & Google Home Routines

Google Home lets you create custom device groups beyond rooms. Group all ceiling fans into “All Fans”. Group all outdoor lights into “Outdoor Lights”. “Hey Google, turn off all fans.” Every fan across every room — off. Groups overlay rooms. A switch can belong to the Bedroom room AND the All Lights group simultaneously. Room commands control by location. Group commands control by function.

Google Nest Hub (₹7,999) and Nest Hub Max (₹22,999) are smart displays showing your home’s status visually. Every Beakn switch appears as a tile you can tap to toggle — a physical, always-on dashboard for a kitchen counter or bedside table. The display shows switch states in real time. For elderly family members, a Nest Hub is the simplest possible interface. Visual + voice + touch — three input methods, one device.

Google Home’s automation editor supports starters (triggers), conditions (filters), and actions — if-then-else logic for Beakn switches. Starter: Time is 10 PM. Condition: Someone is home. Action: Turn ON bedroom night lamp. If nobody is home at 10 PM, the routine doesn’t fire. Sunrise + weekday condition = geyser ON. On weekends, nothing happens. Conditional logic separates smart automation from dumb scheduling.

Google is integrating Gemini AI into Google Home. Instead of manually building routines step-by-step, describe what you want: “Hey Google, every evening at sunset, turn on the balcony and parking lights, and turn them off at sunrise.” Gemini translates this into an automation with correct triggers, conditions, and actions — including Beakn switches. The future of smart home configuration — no menus, no technical knowledge, just tell the AI what you want.

The Google Home app offers Android widgets that display favourite devices on your home screen. Add your most-used Beakn switches as widget tiles — one tap toggles them. Android Quick Settings tiles (pull-down notification shade) can include Google Home device controls. Swipe down, tap the tile, done. No app launch, no unlock required if configured. Equivalent to Apple’s Control Centre but for Android users.

The Google Home app on Wear OS smartwatches (Samsung Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch) lets you control Beakn switches from your wrist. Tap a tile to toggle. Run a routine from your watch face. Lying in bed? Tap the watch to turn off the lights. In the shower with wet hands? Voice command through the watch: “Hey Google, turn on the exhaust.” The watch mirrors your Google Home setup — same rooms, devices, routines.

Why an Alexa Switch Setup Works in Indian Homes

An alexa switch setup makes sense in Indian homes for three specific reasons that Western smart home advice glosses over. First: joint families with elderly parents who resist smartphones. An Echo Dot at ₹4,499 per room solves the “how do grandparents use the smart home” problem with zero training — voice is the universal interface. Second: kitchen humidity and wet hands. Indian cooking involves steam, oil splash, and wet hands throughout the day. A Nest Mini or Echo in the kitchen lets the exhaust fan toggle on without touching anything. Third: maid and cook access. Your help doesn’t need the Beakn app — they just speak to the Echo. Voice removes the user management overhead that multi-tenant smart homes usually require.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every Beakn smart switch — from the entry-level NEXA Retrofit to the Full Glass Magnetic Touch panel — works as an alexa switch through the Beakn Alexa skill and as a Google Home smart switch through the Beakn Google Home action. Link once through the Beakn app. Voice control from every Echo and Nest device.

Yes. Link Beakn to both Alexa and Google Home simultaneously — no conflict. The Echo in your bedroom and the Nest Mini in your kitchen can both control the same alexa switch. Both apps see current state. Both trigger routines. Beakn switches are ecosystem-agnostic.

Open the Alexa app → More → Skills & Games → search “Beakn” → Enable Skill → sign in with your Beakn account credentials → authorise. Alexa discovers every Beakn switch automatically. Assign each alexa switch to an Alexa room group to match your physical home layout. Voice commands work immediately. No hub, no additional hardware, no subscription.

Open the Google Home app → tap + → Set up device → Works with Google → search “Beakn” → sign in with your Beakn account credentials. Google Home discovers all your Beakn switches. Assign each to a Google Home room. Voice commands through Nest Mini, Nest Hub, or any Google Assistant surface work immediately. No hub required.

An Echo Dot or Google Nest Mini costs approximately ₹4,499 each. For a 3BHK home: 3 devices at ₹13,497 total. For a 2BHK: ₹8,998. Whichever ecosystem you prefer (Alexa or Google), the per-room cost is roughly identical. You can mix — Echo in the bedroom, Nest Mini in the kitchen — and both control the same alexa switch or Google-compatible switch setup.

Basic wall-switch operation continues regardless of internet — Beakn switches never stop responding to physical presses. However, voice commands through Alexa or Google require internet because the voice processing happens in the cloud. For internet-independent automation, use Beakn’s built-in schedules and scenes (stored locally on the switch). Voice is the first thing to fail during an outage; the physical switch is the last.
