Smart Home App Setup

20 Device & Settings Features

A smart home app manages the one-time and ongoing configuration of every connected device — pairing a new switch, renaming it, assigning it to a room, changing its Wi-Fi, reconfiguring when it moves, and removing it when replaced. The Beakn smart home app includes 20 settings and setup features covering device category selection, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi guidance, room assignment, signal strength monitoring, reconfiguration flows, hide-from-app options, warranty display, OTP-based security, no-cloud-dependency basic control, cross-platform parity, and OTA updates. All free with every device.

Device Setup Features

Adding a New Device

When adding a new device, the first step selects the category — switch, sensor, IR blaster, curtain motor, energy monitor, or smart plug. Category selection determines which setup flow follows, which app interfaces are pre-configured, and which features are available. Subcategories within switches (LPF Retrofit, NEXA Retrofit, Modular Touch, Full Glass) have their own flows.

Putting a device into pairing mode varies by device type. LPF Retrofit switches use a 3-press pattern on the physical button. NEXA Retrofit and Modular switches have an in-panel reset sequence. Full Glass switches use a long-press on a dedicated button. The Beakn smart home app displays device-specific instructions with animations.

During setup, the app asks which room the device belongs in — Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom, Balcony, Study, Puja Room, Dining Room, etc. Room assignment drives dashboard organisation, voice command grouping (“Hey Siri, turn off bedroom lights”), and scene targeting. Custom room names are supported in English and Indian languages.

Beakn login uses OTP-based verification (SMS or email). Passwords alone are not sufficient — every new login from an unknown device requires OTP confirmation. Protects against credential theft. Standard Indian-market practice (Aadhaar, net banking, UPI all use OTP), so users are familiar with the pattern.

Managing Devices After Setup

Change any device’s name (e.g., “Switch 3” → “Bedside Lamp”) and room assignment at any time through the app. Name changes propagate immediately to voice assistants, scenes, schedules, and multi-user views. No re-pairing. No reconfiguration. Useful when rooms get repurposed, devices move, or initial names were unclear.

Every device’s warranty status — activation date, expiry date, warranty tier (standard vs extended) — is visible in its Device Settings. Tap a switch to see when it was installed, how long warranty remains, and what warranty covers. Useful for troubleshooting calls with Beakn support and for insurance claims after electrical incidents.

The app shows each device’s Wi-Fi signal strength (excellent/good/fair/weak), last online timestamp, firmware version, and overall health status. Weak signal often explains unreliable behaviour — a switch at the edge of Wi-Fi range drops commands. Device Health data helps identify where mesh extenders or Wi-Fi routers would improve reliability.

If a device loses its Wi-Fi connection permanently (router changed, moved to a new home, extended power outage corrupting config), Reconfigure runs a simplified setup flow. Unlike Add Device, the existing device name, room assignment, and scene memberships are preserved — only Wi-Fi credentials are updated. Takes under 2 minutes.

Some physical switches are wired but unused — a backup circuit, a disconnected fan line, a switch that was never hooked up. Hide Switches removes unused buttons from device views while keeping them available if ever needed. Cleaner dashboard, less confusion. Unhide takes one tap when requirements change.

When your home’s Wi-Fi password changes (router replaced, security update), every Beakn device needs the new credentials. The Change Wi-Fi flow pushes new credentials to all devices via the existing connection, avoiding individual re-pairing. Requires internet at the time of the change. Devices update within a few minutes.

App Platform Features

Basic on/off control works on local Wi-Fi without internet. Your Wi-Fi router, your phone, and your Beakn device talk directly over the LAN. Cloud is required only for remote control (from outside the home), multi-user real-time sync, voice assistant commands, and editing configurations. Most daily usage stays local.

The Beakn smart home app works on Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store) with full feature parity. Every feature available on Android is available on iOS and vice versa. Neither platform is “primary” — both get updates simultaneously. The manufacturer has the engineering capacity (10+ years of smart hardware) to maintain true parity, unlike brands where one platform lags.

The Beakn smart home app receives updates every 4–8 weeks — new features, bug fixes, security patches, new brand profiles for IR Blaster, performance improvements. Updates are delivered through Google Play and App Store. Background OTA updates for the hardware firmware happen silently on schedule when the device is online and idle.

Why Beakn’s Smart Home App Works Reliably

Full Android + iOS feature parity, OTP-based security, Wi-Fi change without re-pairing, and warranty display exist because the Beakn smart home app is built 100% in-house. Most Indian smart home brands deploy Tuya or Smart Life (white-label Chinese apps) that ship with standard features but can’t be deeply customised. Beakn controls the source, so India-specific features — 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi guidance for Indian routers, OTP patterns matching Aadhaar/UPI, in-app warranty tied to the Beakn purchase record, WhatsApp support routing — can be built and iterated. The manufacturer has 10+ years of Indian hardware experience, which informs decisions that generic platforms get wrong.

Frequently Asked Questions

Open the app, tap Add Device, choose the device category (switch, sensor, IR blaster, curtain motor, energy monitor), put the device in Wi-Fi reset mode, enter your home’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi credentials, and assign the device to a room. Typical setup takes under 4 minutes per device.

Yes, with full feature parity. Every feature works identically on both platforms — no Android gets 90% while iOS gets 60%. The manufacturer has built the smart home app simultaneously for both platforms with 10+ years of Indian hardware experience. Updates release on both app stores together.

Use Change Wi-Fi to push new credentials to all Beakn devices via their existing connection, avoiding individual re-pairing. Requires internet at the moment of the change (so the app can communicate with devices before Wi-Fi switches). Devices update within a few minutes. If a device is offline during the change, it can be reconfigured individually later.

Go to the device’s settings and tap Delete Device. This unlinks the hardware from your account, removes it from scenes, schedules, voice groupings, and multi-user views, and frees the hardware to be re-paired with a different account. Useful when swapping old switches for new models, selling property with Beakn still installed, or moving devices between homes.

Yes. Every device’s warranty details — activation date, expiry date, warranty tier, purchase source — are visible in its Device Settings. Useful when troubleshooting issues with Beakn support (they already see the warranty status) and for insurance claims after electrical incidents. The warranty clock starts on purchase, not on first pairing.

No. Every feature of the Beakn smart home app — device setup, scenes, schedules, voltage protection, voice control, energy history, WhatsApp alerts, multi-user family sharing, warranty display, OTA updates — is free forever with every device purchase. No monthly fees, no per-user pricing, no feature paywalls. A family using Beakn for 10 years pays ₹0 in app fees.
